Empowerment Through Trauma-Sensitive
Yoga & Somatic Practice

We carry our histories in the fabric of our bodies — layers of memory, tension, and resilience.
Through breath and movement, we create space to release what no longer serves us, and to rise — grounded, whole, and quietly powerful.

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga
and Somatic Practices

These sessions offer a gentle, supportive space to explore movement, breath, and embodied awareness at your own pace. Rooted in trauma-sensitive principles, yoga, and somatic approaches, the focus is on safety, choice, and reconnection — not performance or intensity.

These classes warmly welcome anyone navigating trauma, anxiety, burnout, emotional overwhelm, or chronic stress — as well as those simply seeking a more compassionate, body-aware approach to healing. They may be especially supportive for individuals in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD), and for family members or loved ones affected by SUD.

Each session includes grounding yoga postures, simple breathwork, and guided rest or meditation, creating space to listen to the body and gently restore a sense of wholeness. The practices are adaptable and suitable for all bodies and levels of experience.

My approach draws from Somatic Experiencing® (SE), developed by Dr Peter Levine, supporting nervous system regulation through gentle, titrated awareness of sensation and impulse. I also integrate the somatic philosophy of Sondra Fraleigh, which centres on establishing new patterns, alongside the creative potential of Creative Dance as a tool for exploration and re-imagination.

Guided by my whānau-centred praxis—inspired by Kaupapa Māori principles—I create relational, participant-led spaces that ‘de-centre’ a single dominant voice, encourage co-creation, and foster movement-based inquiry into Self, Other, and relationship. This practice invites transformation through patterns that support presence, agency, resilience, and sustainable well-being.

We begin each class with an informal community welcome — you're invited to arrive early, settle in, and share a cup of tea or juice with others. This is a space to connect, breathe, and simply be — together.

No prior experience is needed. All are welcome.

"Somatic awareness invites us into the ecotone — a fertile threshold where past patterns meet future possibility. Here, movement and breath become pathways to embodied agency, resilience, and transformation."  — Louise A Fielder
